Maryland Sustainable Growth Awards

Celebrating Innovation in Sustainable Development Across Maryland

The Maryland Sustainable Growth Awards recognize individuals, businesses, organizations, and local governments for their outstanding contributions to advancing smart, sustainable growth throughout the state. These awards celebrate projects, policies, and leadership that serve as models for others to follow.

About the Awards

Since 2013, the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP), in partnership with the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission, has honored exceptional efforts in sustainable development through the annual Sustainable Growth Awards.

In 2025, the awards program underwent a major update:

  • A new Policy category was introduced.
  • Award criteria were aligned with the Sustainable Growth Principles (SGP3).
  • Five universal judging criteria were added: Impact, Replicability, Collaboration, Innovation, and Endurance.

The 2025 awards received 30 high-quality nominations across three categories, with winners recognized by the Governor’s Citation, elevating their contributions at the state level.
