Planning Services

Local Assistance and Training

The Local Assistance and Training unit focuses on providing technical support, outreach and training to local government. Our regional planners coordinate Planning’s review and comment on local plans and provide technical assistance to Maryland’s 23 counties and 157 municipalities. Technical assistance includes helping local governments to meet requirements and explaining general provisions of state planning laws, and responding to specific requests for technical assistance.

This unit also coordinates with the department’s initiatives and programs related to education and training. The education and training duties require coordinating with other department staff, state agency staff and other providers of planning education and training in the state.

If you have questions about technical assistance or training please email Joe Griffiths, Manager of Local Assistance and Training.
