The Economic Census is the official five-year measure of businesses in the United States providing comprehensive statistics at the national, state, and local levels. It serves as the benchmark for current economic activity, such as the Gross Domestic Product and Producer Price Index.
The State Data and Analsysis Center at the Maryland Department of Planning provides a number of data and reporting products for each of the Economic Censuses. Select a year below for details.
The State Data Center has developed a data-exploration tool for the 2022 Economic Census. The tool allows users to view sector data for 'Number of Establishments', 'Number of Employees','Annual Payroll' and'Revenue'. The application shows both 2022 and 2017 Economic Census datasets for: Counties, Regions and Statewide.
