This section presents publicly available statistics related to housing development and supply across Maryland. Data come primarily from federal sources such as the U.S. Census Bureau, as well as state-maintained datasets. Topics include residential building permits, housing unit estimates, residential sales, and Maryland’s Priority Funding Areas (PFAs).
The U.S. Census Bureau’s Building Permits Survey provides monthly and annual data on authorized new residential construction at the state, county, and local level. Housing Unit Estimates, also published by the Census Bureau, offer annual estimates of total housing stock by jurisdiction. Residential sales data are compiled from state and local records to illustrate market activity and trends over time. Finally, Priority Funding Areas—designated by the State of Maryland—are included to show where growth is encouraged and where state resources support development.
In this section, housing data are provided for Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions, with interactive tools that allow users to explore change over time and compare across geographies. These data support planning, policy analysis, and efforts to understand the housing landscape at both the state and local levels.
