Coast Smart

Maryland's CoastSmart Communities Initiative, run by the Department of Natural Resources, is dedicated to assisting Maryland's coastal communities address short- and long-term coastal hazards, such as coastal flooding, storm surge, and sea level rise. CoastSmart connects local planners to essential information, tools, people, and trainings. The Secretary of the Maryland Department of Planning serves on the CoastSmart Council, established by the Maryland General Assembly in 2014 for the purposes of adopting specific Coast Smart siting and design criteria to address impacts associated with sea level rise and coastal flooding on future capital projects.
