Sustainability Indicators for Maryland's Jurisdictions

The Maryland Sustainability Indicators Report is modeled after the national Sustainable Communities HotReport developed by the US Census Bureau in partnership with HUD, DOT, and EPA. The HotReport combines selected indicators from several data sets to show performance measures for counties and states that relate to maintaining sustainable, healthy and viable communities.

The Maryland report combines transportation, housing, equity, income, education and jobs data from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) and the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics (LEHD) program. In addition, from Maryland sources there is annual unemployment rate data, three measures of land consumption/preservation and one indicator that deals with location of single-family residential activity in and outside of priority funding areas.

All of the indicators in the Report are available on an annual basis which allows users to easily monitor the sustainability progress of a jurisdiction relative to that of the State and the other jurisdictions.
